The Hold, Suffolk
This heritage centre project will see a brand new building on Ipswich Waterfront, housing a significant percentage of the county’s records as well as academic and public realm facilities.
We are undertaking mechanical, electrical, public health and lift services designs, as well as assuming site supervision responsibilities. The completed project will comprise archives, offices, a 200-seat lecture theatre, shop, café and exhibition space arranged over two storeys in this new, 3,000m² development.
Our designs are being created to help the client achieve their ambition of installing a leading-edge, passively controlled archive stores in line with the imminent revisions to PD5454. To this end we are undertaking extensive thermal modelling to optimise air-tightness, and maintain highly stable, year-round temperature and humidity performance using passive means.
Working in close partnership with the architects, our collective designs also incorporate natural ventilation and LED lighting throughout all facilities on the site, rainwater harvesting, air-source heat pumps, and heat recovery systems to actively reduce carbon emissions and achieve the target of BREEAM excellent rating.
