Staffordshire History Centre
In a bid to rejuvenate the historical records service, Staffordshire History Centre applied for a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to support the refurbishment and extension of their Grade II listed property.
We undertook the initial survey of the existing facilities, and developed a comprehensive mechanical, electrical and public health design solution. The building remained occupied throughout the project, so our site supervision duties involved careful scheduling of the works to minimise disruption. In addition we supported the Client’s HLF bid through the provision of a detailed Management & Maintenance Plan.
Our Energy Studio carried out extensive modelling to create a stable and resilient passive design for the new, BS4971 compliant, archive facilities using an industry-leading triple wall design. We also provided a full energy statement to support the planning application and Part L compliance.
The completed project comprises a new community exhibition space, modern reading and search rooms, additional strong rooms, and the new archive spaces. TheLichfield Records Office and aspects of the County museum have also been relocated to this new Centre.
Our thanks to Pringle Richards Sharratt Architects for these project images
