This new, 94,000 ft², development incorporates 69 apartments arranged over 8-storeys above a number of commercial units. The property also includes a residents’, single-screen cinema, gym and basement-level car parking.
We were commissioned to undertake an initial energy strategy and subsequent full MEP and lift design duties for this new development.
Our mechanical scheme included high-efficiency, central chillers to provide air conditioning to each apartment. We located the central heating plant and buffer vessels in the basement to optimise the amount of space dedicated to the property’s residences. A new substation and low voltage distribution played a pivotal role in our power supplies.
We included CHP generators that were designed to be able to link up to a future District Heating Network. On the roof we added a PV array of 1,185 ft², and LED lighting has been specified throughout. In concert, these measures have achieved a 40% carbon reduction level, with the apartments reaching Sustainable Homes Code 4, and the commercial space BREEAM ‘very good’.
