Battersea Power Station: Phase 4a
Phase 4a is a 2.5-acre, mixed-use development on the western fringes of the main Nine Elms site, formerly occupied by small industrial units. Split over two phases, this part of the Battersea Power Station regeneration scheme will deliver 374 high quality new homes, a 17,000 ft² health centre, public open spaces and 11,800 ft² of incubator space for small local businesses.
We were appointed to undertake full design services for both phases of the programme, and incorporate a primary extra high voltage substation into the scheme.
Our Energy Studio played a major role in the development of the project, devising an energy strategy to meet the GLA carbon reduction target. This reduction is, in part, delivered by the provision of low carbon heat from the Battersea Power Station district heating network.
Through advanced dynamic modelling of the site we were able to optimise the environmental performance of the buildings, developing the apartments to meet ‘Sustainable Houses’ level 4 and the commercial areas to achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating.
