Brindley Arts Centre, Runcorn
New Community Arts Centre
This Heritage Lottery Funded Project has provided a much needed new community arts centre for the town of Runcorn.
Prior to this the local community had to make use of arts facilities located in other Boroughs.
The new arts centre will consist of a 400 seat auditorium and theatre complex. Other facilities provided within the complex include gallery and exhibition spaces, a multi-function studio area, cafe, bar, music class and data rooms together with state of the art theatre systems.
One of the design concerns of Halton Borough Council was the building's impact on the environment and its energy requirements. With this in mind the construction of the building utilises low energy, high efficiency techniques, also incorporating a Scandinavian termo deck slabs system.
For maximum benefit to be achieved careful attention to detail and co-ordination of the services within the structure is critical to the success of the building.
The design team comprises SVM together with architects, John Miller Partnership, and structural engineers, Campbell Reith Hill.
This team has considerable experience working on similar sucessful projects together.
