Galleries of Modern London and Clore Learning Centre Project

SVM are currently involved in the Galleries of Modern London and Clore Learning Centre Project.  This project involves the refurbishment of existing galleries and construction of a new City Gallery.  The commission includes the fit out of these galleries as well as a new learning centre, including classrooms, theatre and education spaces.

As part of a 12 year refurbishment plan this series of projects allows the culmination of the Museum of London's present vision.

The challenge to the design team was to work within the existing building parameters to deliver modern facilities within a highly constrained 1970's construction.

The scheme includes a new City Gallery to house the Lord Mayor's coach which for the first time will give a 'shop window' at street level to allow passing public to see the Museum.  This offers a significant public presence not previously enjoyed.  This new gallery will be fully air conditioned to international gallery standards.

SVM is a member of the successful design team led by the architects Wilkinson Eyre Architects.  SVM is considered to be at the forefront of gallery and museum building services design with a wide portfolio of past and current museum projects.

SVM's role includes the integration with, not only the existing building services serving the Museum, but also with shared heating and cooling plant for the Corporation of London's adjacent building.
